A nasopharyngeal airway (NPA) is a ventilation system placed through the nose into the nasopharynx to prevent upper airway obstruction and help maintain safe breathing in the patient. It ensures the airway remains open in cases such as tongue retraction or obstruction of the airway by intraoral structures. It is the most effective and simplest ventilation solution in situations where an oral airway is unusable (oral trauma, trismus, intraoral masses, dental/facial injuries).
